My notes say that I passed by this Barn on September 23rd, but I didn’t get a picture. And I almost didn’t get a second chance.

A short drive from the Greene County Barn, I parked alongside the New Oglesbee Road (Oglesbee, before i71 came through, used to continue south) and waved at someone mowing the grass.
A stately Barn, it’s seen better days and apparently needs more than a few boards replaced and a coat of paint.
After taking a few pictures, I started back toward the car, but the lawnmowing stopped and I turned around to see Sheri and we talked for a few minutes.
She’s owned the Barn for the past two years. Her son farms alfalfa in the field to the west this year.
The Barn was going to come down on Wednesday last week, but she had made a few phone calls and it seems that the County might be trying to turn it into a Semiquincentennial Barn.
Perhaps there’s a grant she could obtain, she hoped. She repeated to me something that I’ve often heard—that over half the Barns are gone at this time. Based on my visits so far (38, with only three Barns gone and another 8 missing the logo), it’s still mathematically possible, but not very likely that this is true.
This was Scott Hagan’s 29th Barn to be painted.
