Wood County – July 30, 2025

I was again on my way home from a work trip when I realized that I would pass near the Wood County Bicentennial Barn.

Wood County
(taken July 30, 2025, south and east of the Barn)

After leaving i280 and heading east on Ohio Route 163, I slowed down approaching this farm but didn’t find anywhere obvious to stop and park, so went farther east a bit to Bradner Road, then turned around and headed back.

On the north side of the road there was a spot where I could pull all the way off, and I got a few good photos over the corn field.

Walking west along 163, I got to the owner’s driveway, where he was chatting with a friend and two dogs, so I waved, walked over and met Troy Chutchall, who has been the owner since late 1995.

I asked if this was a Bicentennial Barn and asked if I could walk around the back and take some pictures. Troy seemed amused that after all these years people were still interested in his Barn.

It’s a little worse for wear and lack of maintenance. A few boards are missing and it sorely needs another coat of paint and some roof work.

We chatted again before I left and a few minutes after I’d driven off, I realized that I should have offered to cut down his volunteer walnut that was blocking the view—I did have a chainsaw in the truck after all.

Where to view: east-bound i80/i90 (south side), about 1.5 miles east of i280 (41.51736, -83.44099)
There is not a safe spot on i80/i90 to stop and take this Barn’s picture.

Where to visit: 2416 Ohio Route 163 (Genoa Road), just east of Stony Ridge. There is a private drive leading from Genoa to the Barn, but be careful to not block the owners’ access into and out of their property (41.51487, -83.44113).
