Geauga County – August 16, 2025

Headed home from working in and on my woods yesterday, I decided to take a slight detour and visit this Barn. Oddly enough, it was about a year to the day since my last visit.

The silo seems about as worn in 2025 as it did in 2010, but it’s pretty clear the Barn’s logo has been touched up since then—not only are the colors still bold, but the star topping the “i” in Ohio has been replaced (since at least 2024) with a red maple leaf.

The replica Sugar Shack appears to have been built between 2013 and 2017, based on Geauga County’s GIS site. According to County tax records, Jim and Pam Cermak still own the property, as they did in 2003.

The maple leaf, emblematic of Geauga County’s famous Maple Syrup, also serves to represent the Sugarbush Creek Farm. A banner with that name is seen in the 2010 photo, but not in either of the 2024 photos.

Note the shiny new evaporator in today’s photo, to the left of the Bobcat and the right of the bunting.

Where to view and visit: 13034 Madison Road, south of US 322 and north of Middlefield. There is a private drive leading from Madison Road to the Barn, but be careful to not block the owners’ traffic into and out of their property (41.51564, -81.05171).
